Galatians 1:3-4 says, \u201cGrace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I was about seven years old, living at 1336 Random Lane, Duarte, California (amazing that I still remember the address), the young neighbor girl next door got her finger caught in a little music-making toy. The toy had a crank that turned a rubber belt with knobs on it. The knobs hit the ends of little wires of different lengths creating music. Her finger got between the belt and the wires. The harder she pulled, the deeper the wires pierced her. She was crying.\u00a0 Her mom was frantic. I said, \u201cI will go get my dad.\u201d Dad was able to cut the wires and free her finger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paul said that Jesus \u201c\u2026gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world\u2026\u201d There is so much evil in this world today. Jesus spoke of the last days in Matthew 24:11-12, \u201cAnd many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.\u201d As evil increases it effects many\u2014those who once loved, quit loving. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus said in John 13:34-35, \u201cA new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.\u201d The way that Jesus loved us was to give Himself for our sins, that He could deliver us from this evil world. He wants us to love one another the same way, to love others that they might be delivered from evil. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Peter warned us, \u201cBe sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour\u201d (I Peter 5:8). Revelation 12:12 states, \u201cTherefore rejoice, ye heavens, and they that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After Paul\u2019s statement in our text, Paul says to the Galatians, \u201cI marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel\u201d (V. 6). He goes on to say that there are those that would pervert the gospel of Christ, and condemns them saying \u201c\u2026let him be accursed.\u201d (V. 8 & 9). \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What we need today is not new methods, new technology or new preaching, but the simple message that Jesus saves. It worked for Billy Graham. The first verse of \u201cGlorious Freedom,\u201d by Haldor Lillenas and Alfred Judson, says, \u201cOnce I was bound by sin\u2019s galling fetters; Chained like a slave, I struggled in vain. But I received a glorious freedom\u00a0 When Jesus broke my fetters in twain.\u201d You may have your finger in something you can\u2019t escape. Jesus and the Father both want to see you SET FREE!
