Hagar was the bondwoman of Abram and Sarai. At Sarai\u2019s advice, she bare Abram a son, Ishmael (Genesis 16:1-9). Things went gunny bag. Hagar fled into the wilderness with her son to a fountain of water where an angel of the Lord met her and sent her back home. About fifteen years later she was sent into the wilderness of Beer-sheba with her son (Genesis 21:5-19). Without water, and the scorching heat of the sun, they were both about to die. That is where we learn about the broom bush (verse 15 calls it a shrub). It is a desert bush that offers enough shade for a person to lay down on the ground and keep their head under the bush\u2014hoping to stay alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our text talks about nothing being able to hide from the heat of the sun. We can be thankful for nighttime, spring, fall, and winter and cloudy days that give us relief. However, when the sun turns on the heat, we can\u2019t hide from it. What about air conditioning? One day it will fail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of the seven last plagues of Revelation 16, the fourth plague deals with the sun. \u201cAnd the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire, And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory\u201d (V. 8-9). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oh that men would give God glory. Psalm 19:1 says, \u201cThe heavens declare the glory of God;\u2026\u201d The sun was created to declare the glory of God. We don\u2019t worship the sun. God is in control of the sun. He can do with it whatever He pleases. God caused the sun to stand still for Joshua about a whole day (Joshua 10:12-13). For Hezekiah, he caused the sun to go back 10 degrees (Isaiah 38:7-8). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I want us to think for a moment, not of hiding from the heat of the sun, but from the glory of God. Adam and Eve hid from God because they had sinned. John 3:19 states, \u201cAnd this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.\u201d Isaiah 2:19 speaks of a day yet to come, \u201cAnd they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.\u201d We have the same picture in Revelation 6:12-17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is nothing hid from God. Luke 12:2-3 states, \u201cFor there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness, shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let Jesus\u2019 blood cover your sins and you will have no need to hide. II Chronicles 16:9 says, \u201cFor the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong, in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him\u2026\u201d Be glad there is NO PLACE TO HIDE!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
