The “T” Party

I Kings 17:1 states, “And Elijah the Tishbite…”

Today, not out of disrespect, I would like to call Elijah “Mr. T” because he was from Tishbeh in the land of Gilead. Also, I am respectfully calling President Donald Trump “Mr. T.” Tomorrow is election day in our country. It is also Tuesday or “T” day. I called this blog post “The T Party” to signify the political party that Mr. T is representing.

Today many people are pointing to II Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.”

Looking at the Kings of Israel (the Northern Kingdom), and Judah (the Southern Kingdom), we see how the kings over the years had the greatest influence over the health of their nations. When each king was mentioned, the first thing stated was usually whether they did good or evil. When a good king reigned, God blessed the land. When an evil king reigned, God allowed other nations to cross the borders and come in and destroy the land.

Our nation is supposedly a nation by the people, for the people. Too often it is not run by the people or for the people, but by rulers that have set themselves up to be a government of kings. That would be okay if they were good kings that were obedient to God. Too often they are evil kings that would cast God out of our land—a land that was created to be a nation under God.

If our nation is to humble itself, it must first be a people called by His name. Then it must pray, seek, and turn. Though I believe many are doing this now, I wonder how many it will take for God to heal our hurting land. It has worked in the past when the kings lead the way into humbleness.

In I Kings 18-19 we see the Northern Kingdom, Israel, in times of a wicked king called Ahab. As wicked as he was, his wife, Jezebel, was worse. They promoted Baal worship with 450 prophets of Baal, and also had 400 prophets of the groves (I Kings 18:19). Mr. T was used of God to come against this false worship at the contest on Mt. Carmel. He ended up killing all these prophets. The nation immediately turned to God shouting “The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God” (18:39). They were actually shouting, “E-li-jah,” which means, “The Lord, He is my God.” It looked like Mr. T had made the nation great again. He then called for rain to end the drought. God gave him power to outrun Ahab’s chariot back to Jezreel. What a man. What a hero.

It didn’t last long. Jezebel threatened to kill Mr. T within 24 hours. Mr. T fled all the way down to Mt. Sinai. He was humbled when God told him that he wasn’t so great, but there were 7,000 faithful people in Israel. All that was left for Mr. T was to anoint two kings and have Elisha take his place as prophet.

Tomorrow, Mr. T will hopefully be elected and Tuesday will be “T” day. The greatest thing he could do for our country is to lead us to humbling ourselves before God. It could be that he has already seen his hero days. When Elisha replaced Mt. T of old, he did twice as many miracles as Mr. T. It may be that JD Vance will do the same. Humble, pray, seek, and turn, Mr. T, and the T party!
